Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
(Actually, read all of Chapter 3, which is "Guidance for the Young")
There are three things happening to us this school year that are just amazing.
1. The Holy Spirit has continued to guide us in decisions that should seem overwhelming, but just aren't.
2. I can't rave enough about Bob Jones University's curriculum.
3. The decision to incorporate Tae Kwon Do into our lives.
Number one might seem self explanatory to fellow Christians. But for those who are not Christian, or those who are Christian, but who do not believe God speaks to us, this might seem strange.
Before my oldest daughter was preschool aged I made a pact with God that I would homeschool my kids no matter how easy or hard. It was a direct order from God. When a direct order comes from God and you obey that order He makes sure that it happens. By His grace, I am still able to afford to stay home and personally mentor my children. There is no other explanation for why we are still able to do this if I look at the various challenges we've faced over the years. God continues to show up and bless our efforts.
Bob Jones University has made teaching school this year a breeze. I've noticed a lot of homeschoolers pride themselves on writing lesson plans themselves and selecting every book and every worksheet - every single year for every single child. I know, I am one of those like-minded parents. Over this past summer, I thoroughly reviewed BJU's curriculum and prayed about it and could not deny the overwhelming word from God that this would be the way to go. God doesn't make a mistake. And His leading us to this set of curriculum this year was absolutely a God-send.
As for the Tae Kwon Do, that was also divinely sent. As I've looked around Gettysburg for a home church, and visited many great churches, we ended up at a church Mega Sports Camp so Rachael could try Tae Kwon Do for a week. She loved it and I was so impressed by what her group leader did with those kids in only a couple of hours a night for four nights that I asked, "Where did he learn at?" The answer lead us to So's in Hanover, PA where Rachael, Alice, and I have been taking classes together. The blessings that have come from this whole experience are too many to list right now.
I guess the point in this post is to say that we are having a great school year. And I know that it wouldn't be possible without the hand of God being in all we are doing. He has lead each of us to Himself more and more, to great curriculum, and to us being richly blessed by the experiences at So's. There is Shalom in the home and in my heart.
